Choose a can opener type (side-cutting, top-cutting, or electric).
Place the can on a stable surface with the lid facing up.
Position the opener’s cutting wheel or blade on the rim of the can.
Squeeze the handles to engage the blade securely into the rim.
Turn the crank or activate the lever/electric motor to cut around the entire lid.
Keep the opener aligned to avoid slipping off the rim.
Stop when the cut is complete and the lid is fully separated.
Lift the lid away carefully.
Check the rim for sharp edges.
Pour out the contents or transfer to a bowl as needed.
