Check that the lighter is intact and has fuel
Hold the lighter upright
Move it away from your face, hair, and clothing
Place your thumb or finger on the ignition mechanism
Press or roll the ignition to produce a flame
Keep the flame steady and controlled
Bring the flame to the item you want to light
Release the ignition to extinguish the flame
Make sure the flame is fully out before putting the lighter away
Store the lighter safely, away from children and heat
