Open the anvil interface

Use the output slot to take the repaired, combined, or renamed item
Rename an item by typing a new name in the text field
Combine two damaged items of the same type to repair durability
Combine enchanted books with tools, weapons, or armor to apply enchantments
Combine two enchanted items of the same type to merge enchantments
Pay the required experience levels to complete the action
Use the anvil again when it becomes damaged
Replace the anvil when it breaks
