Write the word “CANCELLED” across the front of the cheque in large, clear letters
Write it diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner
Do not cover the account number, cheque number, MICR code, or signature area completely
Use a pen with dark ink
Do not sign the cheque
Keep the cheque blank except for the cancellation mark
Ensure the word is visible and cannot be erased easily
