Keep the inside of your nose moist with saline spray or gel
Use a humidifier in dry indoor air

Wear protective gear during sports or activities with facial injury risk
Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke
Limit use of nasal decongestant sprays
Use a small amount of petroleum jelly inside the nostrils if recommended by a clinician
Control high blood pressure if present
Avoid heavy straining if it triggers nosebleeds
Keep fingernails short to reduce accidental nose trauma
Seek medical advice if nosebleeds are frequent or severe
