Check the title for any lienholder information and make sure the lien is released if required
Locate the seller section on the back of the title
Print your name exactly as it appears on the title
Enter the buyer’s name exactly as required
Fill in the odometer reading if required by your state
Enter the sale date and purchase price if required
Sign your name in the seller signature line
Have any co-owners sign if the title requires multiple signatures
Do not sign as the buyer unless you are the buyer
Do not cross out, erase, or alter any information
If the title has a notary section, sign it in front of a notary if required
Remove the license plates if required by your state
Give the signed title to the buyer
Keep a copy or photo of the signed title for your records
