Keep calm and back away slowly
Keep children and pets away from the snake
Do not try to catch, kill, or provoke the snake
Close doors to isolate the area if safe to do so
Open an outside door if the snake is near an exit
Call local animal control, wildlife control, or a licensed snake remover
If the snake is in a room, block access and wait for help
If the snake is in a closet, basement, garage, or crawl space, do not enter the area
Use a flashlight from a safe distance to keep track of the snake
Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants if you must move nearby
Remove food sources and secure pet food
Seal gaps, cracks, vents, and openings after the snake is removed
Trim grass, remove debris, and clear clutter around the home
Store firewood away from the house
Check for and control rodents around the property
Install door sweeps and repair screens
Contact emergency services if the snake is in a dangerous location and you cannot safely isolate it
