Place eggs in a saucepan in a single layer
Add enough cold water to cover the eggs by about 1 inch
Put the saucepan on the stove over medium-high heat
Bring the water to a rolling boil
Turn off the heat
Cover the pan with a lid
Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 9 to 12 minutes
Drain the hot water
Transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water or run them under cold water
Let the eggs cool completely
Peel and serve
