Wash jars, lids, and bands in hot soapy water
Rinse well
Place jars in a large pot or water bath canner
Cover jars with water by at least 1 inch
Bring water to a boil
Boil jars for 10 minutes
Keep jars hot until ready to use
Place lids and bands in hot water, not boiling, until ready to use
Remove jars with clean tongs or a jar lifter
Let jars air-dry on a clean towel or rack without touching the inside
Use jars immediately while still hot
