Apply a warm compress to the affected ear for 10 to 15 minutes
Take over-the-counter pain relief such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen if safe for you
Keep the ear dry
Sleep with your head elevated
Avoid putting anything into the ear
Use ear drops only if a doctor or pharmacist says they are safe for your situation
Chew gum or swallow if the pain is from pressure changes
Use a saline nasal spray if congestion is contributing to ear pressure
Rest and stay hydrated
Seek medical care if pain is severe, lasts more than a day or two, or comes with fever, drainage, hearing loss, dizziness, or swelling
