Divide the page into three sections: cue column, notes area, and summary area

Write the topic, date, and class at the top

Take notes in the main notes area during class or while reading

Record key ideas, facts, examples, and questions

Leave space between ideas for later additions

After class, write main questions, keywords, or prompts in the cue column

Review the notes and fill in missing information

Write a brief summary of the page in the summary area

Cover the notes area and use the cue column to quiz yourself

Review and recite the answers from memory
