Empty the garbage can completely
Put on gloves
Rinse out loose debris with water
Scrub the inside and outside with soap and a brush
Rinse thoroughly with clean water
Disinfect with a bleach solution or disinfectant spray
Let it sit for the recommended contact time
Rinse again if needed
Dry completely with a towel or air dry in sunlight
Sprinkle baking soda inside to reduce odors
Clean the lid and handles
Repeat regularly to prevent buildup
