Test and balance the water chemistry
Adjust pH to 7.2–7.6
Adjust total alkalinity to 80–120 ppm
Maintain free chlorine at the proper level
Shock the pool if needed
Run the pump and filter continuously until clear
Clean or backwash the filter
Check and clean skimmer and pump baskets
Brush pool walls, floor, and steps
Vacuum debris from the pool
Use a clarifier if fine particles remain
Use a flocculant for severe cloudiness
Check for algae and treat accordingly
Replace old or damaged filter media
Reduce bather load and debris entering the pool
Retest water after treatment and adjust as needed
