Take the puppy to an emergency veterinarian immediately
Do not try to treat parvo at home without veterinary care
Isolate the puppy from all other dogs
Follow the veterinarian’s treatment plan exactly
Use IV fluids or subcutaneous fluids as prescribed
Give anti-nausea medication if prescribed
Give antibiotics if prescribed to prevent secondary infection
Provide prescribed pain relief if recommended by the veterinarian
Keep the puppy warm and quiet
Offer small amounts of water only if the veterinarian says it is safe
Feed only the diet recommended by the veterinarian
Clean and disinfect all contaminated areas with bleach solution or a parvo-effective disinfectant
Wash hands and change clothes after handling the puppy
Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, dehydration, or blood in stool
Return to the veterinarian immediately if symptoms worsen
Keep the puppy away from other dogs until fully recovered and cleared by the veterinarian
Ensure future vaccination on the veterinarian’s schedule after recovery
