Place the board between the players

Black moves first
Take turns placing one stone on an empty intersection
Stones stay on the board after placement
Connect stones of the same color by adjacent lines
Surround empty intersections to make territory
Capture opponent stones by fully surrounding them
Remove captured stones from the board
A group with no empty adjacent points is captured
You may pass instead of placing a stone
The game ends when both players pass
Count territory and captured stones
The player with the higher total score wins
