Place the scooter on a flat surface
Hold the handlebars with one hand
Locate the folding latch near the base of the stem
Release the safety lock if present
Lift or pull the folding latch to unlock the stem
Raise the handlebars until the stem is fully upright
Push the stem forward or back into the locked position
Press the latch down until it clicks securely
Check that the stem is locked in place
Verify the handlebars do not fold back down
