Turn off the circuit breaker and verify power is off with a tester
Remove the cover plate and unscrew the existing device from the box
Identify the incoming hot, neutral, ground, and any switch leg wires
Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw on the outlet or switch
Connect the neutral wire to the silver screw on the outlet
Connect the hot wire to the brass screw on the outlet
If wiring a switch, connect the incoming hot wire to one switch terminal
Connect the switched leg wire to the other switch terminal
If sharing power between an outlet and switch, use a pigtail from the hot feed
If using a receptacle with a switch-controlled half, remove the tab on the hot side only
Tighten all terminal screws securely
Fold wires neatly into the box
Mount the outlet and switch into the box
Install the cover plate
Restore power at the breaker
Test the outlet and switch operation
