Turn off the breaker for the outlet
Verify power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the outlet cover plate
Unscrew the outlet from the electrical box
Pull the outlet out carefully
Take a photo or note the wire connections
Loosen the terminal screws or release backstab wires
Disconnect the wires from the old outlet
Connect the wires to the new outlet
Attach black wire to brass screw
Attach white wire to silver screw
Attach ground wire to green screw
Tighten all connections securely
Fold the wires neatly into the box
Screw the new outlet into the box
Reinstall the cover plate
Turn the breaker back on
Test the outlet with a plug-in tester
