Ask your veterinarian if the pill can be crushed, split, or given with food
Prepare the pill, a towel, and a small treat before starting
Wrap the cat gently in a towel if needed to limit movement
Hold the cat’s head from above with one hand
Tilt the head slightly upward
Use the other hand to open the lower jaw
Place the pill as far back on the tongue as possible
Close the cat’s mouth immediately
Hold the mouth closed and gently stroke the throat
Offer a small amount of water or a treat if approved by your vet
Use a pill pocket or soft food if the pill can be given that way
Ask your vet about a pill shooter or liquid alternative
Stay calm and move quickly but gently
Reward the cat afterward with praise or a treat
Contact your vet if the cat spits out the pill, vomits, or refuses repeated doses
