Approach slowly and calmly
Let the rabbit see and sniff your hand first
Place one hand under the chest, just behind the front legs
Support the hindquarters with your other hand
Lift the rabbit close to your body
Keep the rabbit’s body fully supported at all times
Hold the rabbit securely but gently
Keep the rabbit’s back end from dangling
Avoid grabbing the ears, scruff, or legs
Do not lift a rabbit by the front legs or belly alone
Keep the rabbit low to a safe surface if it struggles
If the rabbit resists, stop and try again later
Put the rabbit down gently with all four feet supported
