How to Sharpen Your Chainsaw?

Wear gloves and eye protection

Secure the chainsaw and engage the chain brake

Clean the chain and bar before sharpening

Identify the shortest cutter on the chain

Use the correct round file size for your chain

Place the file in the cutter at the proper angle

File each cutter from the inside to the outside

Use smooth, even strokes and count the same number on each cutter

Sharpen all cutters on one side first

Rotate to the other side and repeat

Keep the file level and maintain the top-plate angle

Check and adjust depth gauges with a depth gauge tool

File depth gauges to the correct height if needed

Inspect the chain for damage, cracks, or worn parts

Reinstall and tension the chain properly

Test the saw briefly and check chain movement before use
