Disconnect the chainsaw from power or remove the spark plug wire
Put on cut-resistant gloves
Lay the chain flat on a stable surface
Identify the tightest knot or twist in the chain
Hold both ends of the chain to prevent further tangling
Gently rotate one link at a time to reverse the twist
Work from the outer loops toward the center of the tangle
Pull slack through slowly as each knot loosens
Use a flat tool only if needed to separate stuck links
Stop if the chain is bent, cracked, or damaged
Recheck that all drive links face the same direction
Inspect the chain before reinstalling it
