Locate the sprinkler controller
Set the controller to Off or Rain Mode
Turn off the irrigation water supply valve
If needed, shut off the main water supply to the system
Close the backflow preventer valves if your system has them
Drain the system if freezing weather is expected
Turn off any pump connected to the sprinkler system
Verify all sprinkler zones are no longer running
