Scrub the rusted areas with steel wool, a stiff brush, or a scrub pad
Wash the pan with warm water and a small amount of dish soap
Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a towel
Heat the pan on the stove or in the oven to remove all moisture
Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the entire surface
Bake the pan upside down in the oven at 450–500°F for about 1 hour
Let it cool completely in the oven
Repeat the oiling and baking process if rust remains
Store the cast iron in a dry place
Avoid soaking the pan or leaving it wet after use
