Gather dog nail clippers or a grinder, styptic powder, and a bright light
Calm and restrain your dog securely
Hold the paw and isolate one nail at a time
Trim very small amounts from the tip only
Cut straight across or slightly angled, not too deep
Watch the cut surface closely
Stop when you see a small dark center, a gray/white ring, or a moist-looking area
If using a grinder, remove tiny amounts gradually
Trim only a little at a time to avoid the quick
If you hit the quick and it bleeds, apply styptic powder and pressure
Reward your dog after each paw
Repeat regularly to keep nails short
Ask a groomer or vet for help if you are unsure
