Fill a shallow tray, saucer, or basin with water
Place the plant pot in the water
Let the pot sit until the soil absorbs moisture through the drainage holes
Wait until the top of the soil feels slightly moist
Remove the pot from the water
Let excess water drain from the pot
Empty any remaining water from the tray or saucer
Repeat when the soil begins to dry out
