Wash and dry the lemon
Use a microplane grater
Use the fine side of a box grater
Use a vegetable peeler, then finely mince the peel
Use a sharp paring knife to shave off thin strips, then chop finely
Use a fork to scrape the outer peel lightly
Avoid the white pith
Rotate the lemon as you remove only the yellow outer layer
