Pour cold milk into a frothing pitcher or jar, filling it no more than halfway
Choose milk with enough protein and fat for foam, such as whole milk or barista-style milk
Use a steam wand, handheld frother, French press, whisk, or jar with a lid
Submerge the frothing tool just below the milk surface
Start frothing to introduce air until the milk expands and becomes foamy
Lower the tool slightly to heat and texture the milk evenly
Stop when the milk reaches about 140–150°F if heating
Tap the container gently on the counter to remove large bubbles
Swirl the milk to smooth the foam before pouring
Pour immediately into coffee or other drinks
