Lift the kitten’s tail gently
Look at the two openings under the tail
Female: anus and vulva are very close together
Female: vulva looks like a vertical slit
Female: openings often look like an exclamation mark
Male: anus and genital opening are farther apart
Male: genital opening looks more round
Male: openings often look like a colon
Male: there may be a small space where the testicles will develop
Compare with a known male and female kitten if possible
