Sign the title as the seller exactly as required
Fill in the buyer’s name and address
Record the sale date and sale price
Complete the odometer disclosure if required
Remove the license plates if your state requires it
Give the buyer the signed title and bill of sale
Complete any required release of liability form
Notify your state’s DMV or motor vehicle agency of the sale
Provide a lien release if there was a loan on the vehicle
Have the buyer submit the title transfer paperwork to the DMV
Pay any required title transfer fees and taxes
Keep copies of all sale and transfer documents
