How To Cook Rice On The Stove Top?

Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear

Measure the rice and water

Use 1 part rice to 2 parts water for white rice

Use 1 part rice to 2.5 parts water for brown rice

Add a pinch of salt if desired

Bring the water to a boil in a pot

Stir in the rice

Reduce the heat to low

Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid

Simmer without lifting the lid

Cook white rice for about 15 to 20 minutes

Cook brown rice for about 40 to 45 minutes

Turn off the heat when the water is absorbed

Let the rice sit covered for 5 to 10 minutes

Fluff the rice with a fork

Serve immediately
