Swallow, yawn, or chew gum
Try the Valsalva maneuver gently
Use steam or take a warm shower
Apply a warm compress to the ear
Use over-the-counter ear drops if appropriate
Tilt your head to help fluid drain
Avoid inserting cotton swabs or objects into the ear
If caused by earwax, use mineral oil, baby oil, or hydrogen peroxide drops only if safe for you
If caused by a cold or allergies, use a decongestant or antihistamine if appropriate
See a doctor if pain, fever, drainage, hearing loss, or blockage persists
