Take warm sitz baths for 10–15 minutes several times a day
Apply cold packs to reduce swelling and pain
Use over-the-counter hemorrhoid creams or suppositories as directed
Keep the area clean and dry
Wipe gently with soft, unscented toilet paper or moist wipes
Avoid straining during bowel movements
Increase fiber intake with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes
Drink plenty of water
Use a stool softener if needed
Avoid sitting on the toilet for long periods
Exercise regularly to help prevent constipation
Avoid heavy lifting and activities that increase pressure
Wear loose, breathable clothing
Use pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen if appropriate
