Use waxed floss or dental tape
Start with a small length of floss
Hold the floss gently between your fingers
Slide the floss slowly between teeth
Do not snap the floss into the gums
Curve the floss into a C shape around each tooth
Move the floss up and down softly
Use a fresh section of floss for each tooth gap
Floss after brushing if that feels easier
Try floss picks if regular floss is hard to use
Use a water flosser if string floss hurts
Floss daily to reduce gum sensitivity over time
Stop if you have bleeding that does not improve
See a dentist if pain continues
