Blot up as much urine as possible with paper towels or a clean cloth
Rinse the area with cool water and blot again
Apply an enzymatic pet urine cleaner to the carpet
Let the cleaner sit for the time listed on the product label
Blot the area dry with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the spot after it dries
Let the baking soda sit for several hours or overnight
Vacuum up the baking soda thoroughly
Repeat the enzymatic cleaner if the smell remains
Use a wet-dry vacuum if the carpet was heavily soaked
Clean the carpet padding if the odor has soaked through
Replace the carpet padding if the smell will not come out
Avoid using steam or heat before the odor is fully removed
Test any cleaning product on a hidden area first
