Choose a ripe pineapple with a healthy green crown
Twist or cut off the top, removing the fruit flesh
Peel away a few lower leaves to expose the stem
Let the crown dry for 1 to 2 days
Place the crown in water or plant it directly in soil
If using water, suspend only the stem base in water
Change the water every few days
If using soil, use a well-draining potting mix
Plant the crown about 1 to 2 inches deep
Keep the plant in a warm, bright location
Water lightly and keep the soil slightly moist
Avoid overwatering
Wait for roots to develop over several weeks
Transplant to a larger pot if needed
Feed occasionally with a balanced fertilizer
Expect fruit only after several months to a few years
