Take colchicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor
Start it as soon as possible after a gout flare begins
Common acute gout dosing in adults is 1.2 mg at the first sign of a flare
Take 0.6 mg one hour later
Do not take more than 1.8 mg total for a gout flare unless your doctor tells you otherwise
Do not repeat the acute flare dose for at least 3 days if you have kidney or liver problems, or as directed by your doctor
Swallow tablets or capsules with water
Take with or without food
Stop and seek medical help if you develop severe diarrhea, vomiting, muscle pain, weakness, numbness, or unusual bleeding
Do not take colchicine with certain medicines unless your doctor approves
Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or are pregnant or breastfeeding
Use only the dose and schedule your clinician recommends for you
