Apply a warm compress to the closed eyelid for 10–15 minutes, 4–6 times throughout the day
Use a clean washcloth each time and rewarm it as needed
Gently massage the eyelid after the warm compress, if it does not cause pain
Keep the eyelid clean with diluted baby shampoo or a gentle eyelid cleanser
Do not squeeze, pop, or puncture the stye
Avoid eye makeup and contact lenses until it heals
Wash hands before and after touching the eye area
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Seek urgent medical care if vision changes, swelling spreads, fever develops, or the stye is very painful
See a doctor if it is not improving within 24–48 hours or keeps recurring
