Confirm lice by checking the scalp, behind the ears, and at the nape of the neck
Use a lice treatment product exactly as directed on the label
Repeat the treatment if the product instructions require it
Comb wet hair with a fine-tooth lice comb to remove lice and nits
Section the hair and comb from scalp to ends
Wipe the comb on a tissue or rinse it after each pass
Check the hair every 2 to 3 days for 2 to 3 weeks
Wash bedding, hats, pillowcases, and recently worn clothing in hot water
Dry items on high heat
Seal items that cannot be washed in a plastic bag for 2 weeks
Vacuum carpets, furniture, and car seats
Avoid sharing combs, brushes, hats, and hair accessories
Treat close household contacts if advised or if they have lice
Avoid using lice treatments more often than directed
Seek medical advice if lice persist after treatment or if the scalp becomes irritated or infected
