Gather: 10 fresh mint leaves, 1 lime (cut into wedges), 2 tsp sugar (or 3/4 oz simple syrup), 2 oz white rum, crushed ice, 4–6 oz soda water
Add mint leaves to a sturdy glass
Add sugar (or simple syrup) to the glass
Squeeze lime wedges into the glass, then drop in the wedges
Gently muddle to release mint and lime juice (avoid pulverizing mint)
Fill the glass with crushed ice
Pour in the rum
Top with soda water to desired strength
Stir gently to combine
Garnish with a mint sprig and a lime wheel or wedge
Serve immediately
