Cleanse with a gentle cleanser
Pat dry
Apply a thin layer of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to the zit
If skin is sensitive, use a hydrocolloid pimple patch instead
Leave on overnight
Avoid picking, squeezing, or rubbing
Do not apply multiple acne products at the same time
If needed, spot-treat with salicylic acid (0.5–2%) instead of benzoyl peroxide
Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer around (not on) the treated area if it gets dry
In the morning, rinse gently and blot dry
If the zit is still raised, reapply the same spot treatment for the day
Stop if you get significant irritation, burning, or swelling
