Measure the space where the planter box will go
Decide the planter box size and shape
Choose weather-resistant wood or another durable material
Gather materials: boards, screws, drill, saw, measuring tape, sandpaper, and optional liner
Cut the boards to the desired dimensions
Sand all cut edges and surfaces
Assemble the frame by attaching the side boards to the end boards
Secure the corners with screws
Attach a bottom panel if needed
Drill drainage holes in the bottom
Line the inside with landscape fabric or a plastic liner if desired
Add support braces if the box is large
Check that the box is square and stable
Seal or paint the exterior with a weather-safe finish
Place the planter box in its final location
Fill it with soil and plant your flowers, herbs, or vegetables
