Wash your hands
Clean the blister gently with soap and water
Do not pop it if possible
Cover it with a hydrocolloid blister bandage or moleskin
Reduce friction and pressure on the area
Keep the area clean and dry
If the blister is large, very painful, or likely to burst, use a sterile needle to drain it carefully
Leave the skin flap in place
Apply antibiotic ointment only if the blister has opened
Change the dressing daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Wear roomy, supportive shoes or avoid the activity that caused it
Use a cold compress for pain and swelling
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed
Seek medical care if there is redness, warmth, pus, fever, or worsening pain
