Schedule an appointment with a primary care doctor, urologist, or endocrinologist
Ask for a total testosterone blood test
Ask whether free testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH, prolactin, and estradiol should also be checked
Get the blood draw done in the morning, usually between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Follow any fasting instructions given by the clinic or lab
Avoid heavy exercise, alcohol, and illness-related testing if possible before the test
Repeat the test on a different morning if the first result is low
Review the results with the ordering clinician
Ask about next steps if symptoms are present or results are abnormal
