Turn off the water supply to the toilet
Flush the toilet to empty the tank and bowl
Disconnect the water supply line
Remove the old toilet
Scrape off the old wax ring and clean the flange area
Inspect the flange and repair it if needed
Install a new wax ring or wax-free seal
Set the toilet bowl onto the flange and press down evenly
Insert and tighten the closet bolts
Check that the toilet is level
Reconnect the water supply line
Turn on the water supply
Let the tank fill
Flush the toilet and check for leaks
Tighten connections if needed
Apply caulk around the base if desired, leaving a gap at the back
