Use double quotation marks around short quotations
Place the author’s last name and page number in parentheses after the quote
Put the period after the parenthetical citation
If the author’s name is mentioned in the sentence, include only the page number in parentheses
Use a block quote for quotations longer than four lines of prose or three lines of poetry
Start a block quote on a new line
Indent the entire block quote one inch from the left margin
Do not use quotation marks for a block quote
Place the parenthetical citation after the final punctuation of the block quote
Use ellipses to show omitted words within a quote
Use brackets to add or change words in a quote
Keep the original spelling, capitalization, and punctuation unless changes are necessary and marked
Cite the source in the Works Cited page
