Turn off the ignition and remove the key
Put the vehicle in park or neutral and engage the parking brake
Open the hood and locate the battery
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign or black cable
Use the correct wrench to loosen the negative terminal clamp
Remove the negative cable from the battery and secure it away from the terminal
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign or red cable
Use the correct wrench to loosen the positive terminal clamp
Remove the positive cable from the battery and secure it away from the terminal
If needed, remove any battery hold-down bracket
Lift the battery out carefully using proper technique
Wear gloves and eye protection while handling the battery
