Measure the wall or ceiling area
Cut drywall sheets to fit
Mark and cut openings for outlets, switches, and fixtures
Install drywall with screws into studs or joists
Stagger seams between sheets
Leave a small gap at the floor
Tape all seams and inside corners
Apply joint compound over tape and screw holes
Let the first coat dry completely
Sand lightly after drying
Apply a second coat of joint compound
Feather the edges wider than the first coat
Let the second coat dry completely
Sand again with fine-grit sandpaper
Apply a third thin coat if needed
Sand smooth after drying
Prime the drywall before painting
Clean dust before finishing
Use corner bead on outside corners
Keep screws slightly below the surface without breaking the paper
Fill screw dimples with joint compound
Use a mud pan and taping knife for application
Keep coats thin to reduce sanding
Check for ridges with a light at an angle
