How To Remove Blood Stains?

Blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel; don’t rub

Rinse the stain from the back of the fabric with cold water

For fresh stains, soak in cold water for 30–60 minutes, then rinse

Pretreat with a small amount of liquid laundry detergent; gently work it in and let sit 10–15 minutes, then wash

For stubborn stains, soak in an enzyme-based stain remover according to label directions, then wash

For white fabrics, use oxygen-based bleach (color-safe) in warm water according to label directions; soak, then rinse and wash

Avoid hot water and heat until the stain is fully gone (heat can set blood)

For mattresses/carpets, blot with cold water, then apply a mixture of cold water and a small amount of laundry detergent; blot and repeat until removed

For upholstery, test any cleaner in an inconspicuous area first, then blot with cold water and mild detergent; avoid soaking the material

For dried blood on fabric, soak longer in cold water, then pretreat with detergent or enzyme remover before washing

If using hydrogen peroxide, apply a small amount to the stain, wait briefly, blot, rinse with cold water, then wash; test on hidden area first

Air-dry after treatment; check the stain before using a dryer

If the item is dry-clean only, blot and take to a professional cleaner and point out the stain
