There is no cure for chickenpox; it usually clears on its own in 1 to 2 weeks
Rest as much as possible
Drink plenty of fluids
Take acetaminophen for fever or pain if needed
Do not give aspirin to children or teenagers
Use calamine lotion on itchy spots
Take cool or lukewarm oatmeal baths
Keep fingernails short and avoid scratching
Wear loose, soft clothing
Stay away from other people until all blisters have crusted over
See a doctor if symptoms are severe, you are pregnant, or the person is a baby, elderly, or immunocompromised
Seek urgent care for trouble breathing, confusion, severe dehydration, or a very high fever
